Short, dentist-written guides — good for patients searching before they book, and good for search engines too.
Five things to try tonight, and the signs that mean you shouldn't wait for an appointment.
When a wisdom tooth starts to push through, the ache can arrive fast — often in the evening, right when the practice has closed. The good news is that most flare-ups can be calmed at home while you wait for an appointment.
Book to be seen promptly if swelling spreads to the jaw or neck, you develop a fever, there's a bad taste that won't shift, or you struggle to open your mouth or swallow. These can signal an infection that needs treating rather than riding out.
This is general information, not a substitute for an examination. If you're in pain, get in touch and we'll find you a slot.
Common causes, and a simple way to tell if it needs a same-day visit.
Puffy, tender gums that bleed a little when you brush are one of the most common things we see — and one of the most treatable. Swelling is your gums' way of flagging that something has been irritating them, usually for a while.
If the swelling is mild, eases with careful brushing and flossing over a few days, and the bleeding settles, it's usually early gingivitis you can turn around at home. Book a same-day visit if one area is very swollen or painful, if there's pus, or if a tooth feels loose.
General information only — if your gums have been sore for more than a week, a short hygiene appointment is the quickest way to settle it.
A two-minute routine that avoids the most common mid-treatment problems.
Braces and aligners do brilliant work, but they also give food and plaque more places to hide. A quick, consistent routine keeps things fresh between meals and avoids the two problems we see most mid-treatment: white marks on the teeth and inflamed gums.
Sticky and hard foods — toffee, chewing gum, whole apples, crusty bread — are the usual culprits for bent wires and popped brackets. Cutting firmer foods into smaller pieces takes the pressure off.
General guidance — your orthodontist will tailor advice to your specific appliance at each visit.
